2nd Place Kitchen

Of The Year!

Designed by Jenessa Wickline with Interior Finish and Remodel

Brought to Life with Seville Cabinetry

Designed for a Home Builders Association parade home in South Bismarck, this 2nd Place Kitchen of the Year balances architectural presence with inviting warmth. From the beginning, the goal was to create an open, welcoming space with a super warm, cottage-inspired atmosphere, one that felt approachable while still standing out.

With soaring vaulted ceilings in the living room and a massive ridge beam to work around, the design required both creativity and precision. Rather than allowing those architectural elements overwhelm the room. The cabinetry was thoughtfully designed to ground and balance the space, creating a kitchen that feels expansive yet anchored.

The Client’s Dream

The homeowners envisioned a kitchen that felt both refined and relaxed, a space that blended seamlessly with the overall tone of the home. Achieving that warmth meant carefully pairing cabinetry tones with the stone surfaces, ensuring the paint and natural materials complemented one another perfectly.

As a parade home, the kitchen needed to make an impression. It quickly did just that, drawing the most traffic during the event and standing out across the community. The layout proved intuitive and functional, reinforcing the sense that the space was as practical as it was beautiful.

The Result

The finished kitchen radiates comfort and cohesion. Custom-painted cabinetry, closely aligned with Sherwin-Williams’ Accessible Beige, pairs effortlessly with a coordinating stone backsplash and countertops for a unified, grounded look.

The cabinetry visually stabilizes the vaulted ceiling above, creating a harmonious balance between architectural structure and detailed craftsmanship below.

Craftsmanship To Customization

A defining focal point of the space is the convex-curved hood, a bold departure from traditional concave profiles. As a first-time application for the designer, it introduced unique challenges, particularly in crown integration. The result is a sculptural element that adds depth and personality to the room.

Additional custom details elevate the design:

  • Cabinetry sitting flush to the counter to discreetly conceal appliances
  • Stile-to-floor detailing for furniture-inspire, foundational feel
  • Flat yet intentional island end panels
  • Amerock hardware in gunmetal for subtle contrast

Each element was carefully considered to maintain warmth while reinforcing craftsmanship.

It’s All About The Details

Material harmony played a central role in the design. The stone backplash mirrors the countertops for visual continuity, while the soft, custom cabinetry color enhances the cottage-inspired atmosphere the homeowners desired.

The cabinetry acts as a grounding force beneath the vaulted ceiling, ensuring the space feels balanced rather than overpowering.

Take A Closer Look

Beyond its visual appeal, this kitchen is laid out with precision. Appliances are integrated seamlessly, proportions are carefully calibrated, and architectural features are embraced rather than concealed.

The result is a kitchen that feels open without feeling sparse, warm without feeling heavy.
